Social-Cultural Programs & Community Engagement
FILAMemphis preserves and elevates Filipino heritage through large-scale cultural events such as Philippine Fiesta and Pasko sa Memphis, along with school partnerships and civic collaborations. These initiatives serve as platforms for cultural education, artistic expression, and cross-cultural dialogue.
Volunteer Appreciation
At the heart of FILAMemphis, Inc. is a culture of service. Our Volunteer Appreciation Program formally recognizes the dedicated individuals who generously contribute their time, expertise, and passion to plan and execute our initiatives throughout the year.
By celebrating volunteerism, we reinforce a sustainable culture of leadership, stewardship, and community ownership. Many of our volunteers grow from participants to committee members to officers demonstrating the strength of a fully community-led organization built on shared commitment and collective pride.
Easter Picnic
Our Annual Easter Picnic serves as a cornerstone community-building event that brings families together in a welcoming, intergenerational environment. Designed to foster connection and belonging, the picnic provides opportunities for networking, fellowship, and joyful celebration.
By creating inclusive spaces where families can gather and build relationships, FILAMemphis strengthens social bonds and reinforces the support systems that sustain immigrant communities.
Santacruzan
Santacruzan honors a deeply rooted Filipino tradition celebrating Flores de Mayo and the Blessed Virgin Mary. This culturally significant procession engages youth participants who represent historical and symbolic figures tied to the introduction of Christianity in the Philippines.
By preserving this heritage tradition in Memphis, FILAMemphis ensures that younger generations remain connected to their cultural and spiritual roots while fostering pride, identity, and intergenerational continuity.
Philippine Fiesta
Philippine Fiesta is FILAMemphis’ largest cultural celebration and our heartfelt expression of gratitude to the City of Memphis for embracing the Filipino community. This vibrant event showcases Filipino traditions, cuisine, music, and dance to thousands of attendees across diverse backgrounds.
By promoting cross-cultural appreciation and civic engagement, Philippine Fiesta contributes meaningfully to Memphis’ diversity and inclusion efforts while empowering Filipino-Americans to celebrate and share their heritage with pride.
Seniors Day
Seniors Day celebrates the vitality and wisdom of our senior members through engaging activities designed to promote teamwork, wellness, and camaraderie. Interactive games challenge both physical and mental abilities, encouraging healthy aging and social connection.
The program reinforces respect for elders while strengthening their active participation within the organization.
maBOOhay
maBOOhay is our family-centered Halloween celebration designed to provide a safe, engaging, and culturally connected space for children and parents alike. Through themed activities, games, and community participation, the event fosters belonging while encouraging intergenerational engagement.
The program strengthens family bonds and ensures that Filipino-American traditions continue to evolve in joyful and meaningful ways.
Pasko Sa Memphis (Christmas in Memphis)
Pasko Sa Memphis is our flagship cultural and fundraising event, bringing the community together during the holiday season through a dynamic showcase of Filipino-American talent. Featuring music, dance, and cherished traditions, this annual production generates critical funding through ticket sales and sponsorships to sustain organizational operations.
Many performers began as children and now return with their own families creating a powerful full-circle tradition of volunteerism and leadership development. Every performance is an act of service, nurturing confidence, creativity, and the next generation of community leaders.
Community Partnership
Our Community Partnership Program strengthens relationships with diverse organizations including the Vietnamese, Chinese, and Indian communities, Memphis Public Libraries, the City of Memphis, and Memphis-Shelby County Schools.
Through collaborative cultural showcases, culinary presentations, and civic events, FILAMemphis builds bridges across communities while generating revenue through vendor participation. These partnerships expand cultural understanding, promote inclusion, and amplify the Filipino-American presence within the broader Memphis landscape.
